South Bay Power Plant Approved For Demolition

On Friday, Oct. 15, the California Independent System Operation Corporation (ISO) notified South Bay Power Plant operator, Dynegy, Inc. the 50 year-old power plant is approved for decommission and demolition. This news comes after the ISO received new information about the power demands in the area.

Eastlake Titans Beat El Camino 34-6

The Wildcats came into Stan Canaris Stadium with two goals in mind, stop the Titan ground game and avenge last year’s playoff loss to Eastlake.

Only a year after voters overwhelmingly defeated a sales-tax hike, Chula Vista City Hall is proposing yet another tax increase.

According to City Hall, Proposition H proposes a simple update to protect the city’s telecommunications tax revenue stream. What the measure does is expand the scope of the tax, thereby increasing revenues. Many wireless subscribers will see a zero to 5 percent increase. The ballot language fails to indicate the possible increases in taxes. It states the opposite.

Chula Vista Mayor, City Council Voluntarily Take First Step Toward Pension Reform

Chula Vista’s Mayor, City Council and the City’s executive staff have all agreed to voluntarily pay the employee share of their CalPERS retirement plans no later than January 2011.

The contribution amounts to an 8-9% cut in compensation and will generate over $201,236 in taxpayer savings.

WINTER YOUTH COED BASKETBALL REGISTRATION STARTS SEPTEMBER 27

The Chula Vista Recreation Department will begin registration for the Winter 2010-2011 Youth Coed Basketball League on Monday, September 27.

Cost is $95 for residents and $119 for non-residents for the first child. For a second child or more, the cost is $75 for residents and $94 for non-residents.

On 9-2-10, members of the Chula Vista Police Street Team/Gang Suppression Team arrested Andrew Pequeno, DOB 3/22/1991, at the Plaza Bonita Shopping Center.

Pequeno, a resident of Chula Vista was wanted in connection with two separate incidents involving an assault with a deadly weapon.  Both incidents occurred in the City of Chula Vista in the month of August and the victims received serious, but non-life threatening stab wounds.

A rare World War II plane that has been sitting at the bottom of Lower Otay Reservoir for more than 65 years was raised today.

For over 60 years, the Navy SB2C-4 Helldiver sat about 90 feet below the surface of the lake just East of the Arco Olympic Training Center near Eastlake, (Chula Vista) California.

When someone’s motto is “the only easy day is yesterday its probably a good indicator of how they look at life.

That motto happens to belong to the  Navy SEALs.  The U.S National Field Hockey Team had the opportunity to live that motto with the SEALs, military experts with the toughest training in the world.   Their endurance and willpower was put to  the test with some of our military’s finest.

Lower Otay Reservoir will be closed to the public the week of August 16 – 22, 2010, to allow a salvage operation to recover a World War II dive bomber.

There will be no boating allowed on August 18, 21 or 22.

Normally, Lower Otay Reservoir is open to the public on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The U.S. Navy SB2C Helldiver crashed into the reservoir during a training flight in 1945. The two-person crew survived. The plane remained mostly forgotten until February 2009, when a local fisherman spotted the outline of the plane on his electronic fish finder.

At 2:48 this morning Chula Vista Police were alerted to the Otay Ranch Town Center by silent alarm after thieves used a semi-tractor truck (blue in color) to knock over and attempt to steal an outdoor ATM.

CHULA VISTA — A man and woman who led Chula Vista officers on a high-speed pursuit up and down Interstate 805 early Thursday were arrested with a pistol and a sketch of the inside layout of a drug store in their car, police said.

A contractor working for City Of Chula Vista will be closing Elmhurst St at Otay Lakes Road in order to construct a drainage cross gutter.

Stabbing Suspect Sought by CVPD following fight just after 1 a.m. on the 600 block of H Street.

At 0103 hrs CVPD officers responded to the area of 600 “H” Street on a report of subjects asaulting and chasing a woman.

A bystander directed officers to a woman identified as Gena OSBORNE of Chula Vista, who was standing nearby.
