Chula Vista Council sets pay for first elected city attorney

Chula Vista’s first elected city attorney will be paid $203,688 annually, the City Council decided Tuesday.

City Attorney Glen Googins, who was elected in June, said his primary role would be to deliver quality legal advice allowing the city to act in an ethical and effective way.

“One of the main reasons my supporters supported me was because they knew I would not favor them. I would not disfavor … anyone else in my representation in of the city. I would strive in all things to be fair regardless of party politics or perspective,” he said

A packed audience at City Hall offered two standing ovations Tuesday for outgoing City Attorney Bart Miesfeld, who will continue working for the city under Googins.

Miesfeld said he felt very fortunate to have served the city as its top legal counsel.

  1. City Attorney Glen Googins, let’s do away with daytime curfews! A monumental waste of taxpayer dollars, not to mention an outrageous violation of civil rights. The state of California already has a law in place, California Education Code 48264, which reads, “The attendance supervisor or his or her designee, a peace officer, a school administrator or his or her designee, or a probation officer may arrest or assume temporary custody, during school hours, of any minor subject to compulsory full-time education or to compulsory continuation education found away from his or her home and who is absent from school without valid excuse…”, so why waste taxpayer dollars in enforcing a duplicative law, and why waste the precious time and resources of families throughout the city that are needlessly caught in this web and are required to fight in court or pay a fine to avoid the time it takes to do so? The current law is vague, much too broad, and has “profiling” written all over it. Go to NoCurfews.org for more info.
