Energy efficient LED lighting will light up Chula Vista’s Civic Center complex over the holidays at no cost to the City. The display, featuring more than 250 light strands on buildings and palm trees, is part of an effort to encourage residents and businesses to make the switch to newer and safer energy saving technology.
On Saturday, November 20th at 6:00 PM, Otay Ranch Town Center invites the community to give Santa Claus a warm welcome for the holiday season.
Otay Ranch Town Center will officially kick off the holiday season with The 4th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Santa’s Arrival Parade. In addition, children and families will be delighted to see the first “snow” of the holiday season. The 30′ tree will be decorated with 10,000 white twinkle lights and traditional holiday ornaments. After the parade, the Momentum Church of Otay Ranch will be doing a live theatrical holiday performance in the Food Pavilion.

As per the recent census there are approximately over 24.9 million military veterans in the United States alone. No doubt, solders and military personnel are assets to any country. A 22-year-old Chula Vista man led Murrieta police on a foot chase Friday evening after officers stopped him on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle, according to a Murrieta Police Department news release.

In celebration of the City of Chula Vista’s 100th anniversary in 2011, the Chula Vista Heritage Museum is sponsoring a centennial photo contest. The contest is intended to capture unique images of the community and the essence of life in Chula Vista. The City of Chula Vista offices will be closed Thursday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day. All city libraries, recreation centers and swimming pools will be closed. The one exception is the Chula Vista Nature Center, which will offer free admission to veterans, current members of the U.S. armed forces, and their families with valid military I.D. on Veterans Day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A controversial tax measure in Chula Vista appeared destined to fail Tuesday night.
According to city officials, Proposition H would update and extend a telecommunications tax for residents. Chula Vista residents have been paying the Utility Users Tax since the 1970s and current residents pay between $.80 and $4.00 a month on their phone bill.
The already sluggish local economy appears to have lost momentum in September, with a sharp decline in building permit applications dragging the University of San Diego’s Index of leading Economic Indicators into its first outright decline since early 2009.

The National Football League named Chula Vista Hills Elementary an ‘NFL Play 60 Super School.’ The school was awarded a $10,000 grant to support students’ health and wellness. Chargers players Nick Hardwick and Luis Castillo (pictured) presented the check at a spirited assembly on Tuesday, October 26, that prompted the Chargers players and cheerleaders to say they had never been more warmly received. The players and cheerleaders then joined school staff in leading students in fitness activities. Just about every one of the school’s 539 students was adorned in Chargers blue and gold jerseys or NFL t-shirts. Parents were cheering just as loudly as the students, “Let’s go Char-Gers!”
A new Charter School in the Chula Vista or Eastlake area is hoping to open its doors in the 2010-2011 school-year.
A charter school is a Free Public school that is usually funded partly by the local school district. The school will be submitting its charter application to the Chula Vista Elementary School District by December.
The Eastlake Titans took their undefeated 7-0 record to the Chula Vista Spartans. The Titans, rolled to a 48-14 win behind Jude Isbell’s 116 yards rushing and the passing of QB Josh Palet who was 6-8 for 140 yards and two scores.
The Chula Vista Fire Department is looking for City Employees, or residents of Chula Vista 21 years or older who have an interest in learning how to be a Disaster Service Worker.
Chula Vista property owners are now able to receive low-interest loans in order to make energy-saving improvements at their homes or businesses. The loans are part of the city’s Home Upgrade, Carbon Downgrade program. Loans may be given for a variety of projects such as wall and attic insulation, water heater upgrades, efficient windows, solar photovoltaic systems, and cool roofing.
The Chula Vista Public Library has planned some “spooktacular” events for young and old during the fall Halloween season. All programs are free and open to the public.
OnStage Productions will perform a “sneak peak” of the cult musical horror comedy, “TheRocky Horror Picture Show,” on Monday, October 25 at the Civic Center Library. The production will begin at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.

Cappella Gloriana, the Cathedral City based choir, will perform at the Civic Center Library onSunday, October 31 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium. The choral group will set the mood for Halloween by performing scary classics. Come hear a spooky rendition of “Dry Bones” and“Sleepy Hollow” or listen to a tale of gothic horror. Funded by the city’s Performing and VisualArts Grant program, this unique performance is a first of its kind for Chula Vista residents.
Admission is free and the performance is suitable for children and adults alike.
