Energy efficient LED lighting will light up Chula Vista’s Civic Center complex over the holidays at no cost to the City. The display, featuring more than 250 light strands on buildings and palm trees, is part of an effort to encourage residents and businesses to make the switch to newer and safer energy saving technology.

Otay Ranch Town Center Welcomes Santa Claus With the First “Snow” Of The Season

On Saturday, November 20th at 6:00 PM, Otay Ranch Town Center invites the community to give Santa Claus a warm welcome for the holiday season.

Otay Ranch Town Center will officially kick off the holiday season with The 4th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and Santa’s Arrival Parade. In addition, children and families will be delighted to see the first “snow” of the holiday season. The 30′ tree will be decorated with 10,000 white twinkle lights and traditional holiday ornaments. After the parade, the Momentum Church of Otay Ranch will be doing a live theatrical holiday performance in the Food Pavilion.

Proposition H, a controversial Telecommunications Users Tax in Chula Vista was defeated on Tuesday at the election polls.

As the second largest city in the San Diego metropolitan area as well as the 7th largest city in Southern California, Chula Vista is facing a $12 million dollar budget deficit.

A controversial tax measure in Chula Vista appeared destined to fail Tuesday night.

According to city officials, Proposition H would update and extend a telecommunications tax for residents. Chula Vista residents have been paying the Utility Users Tax since the 1970s and current residents pay between $.80 and $4.00 a month on their phone bill.

Halloween Fun at Chula Vista Libraries

The Chula Vista Public Library has planned some “spooktacular” events for young and old during the fall Halloween season. All programs are free and open to the public.
OnStage Productions will perform a “sneak peak” of the cult musical horror comedy, “TheRocky Horror Picture Show,” on Monday, October 25 at the Civic Center Library.  The production will begin at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.
Halloween Storytimes and Costume Parades will be featured at all Chula Vista librarybranches during the week of October 25-29. See your local branch for specific dates and times.
Cappella Gloriana, the Cathedral City based choir, will perform at the Civic Center Library onSunday, October 31 at 2 p.m. in the auditorium. The choral group will set the mood for Halloween by performing scary classics. Come hear a spooky rendition of “Dry Bones” and“Sleepy Hollow” or listen to a tale of gothic horror. Funded by the city’s Performing and VisualArts Grant program, this unique performance is a first of its kind for Chula Vista residents.
Admission is free and the performance is suitable for children and adults alike.

Eastlake Downs Otay Ranch and Remains Undefeated.

Eastlake ran all over the Otay Ranch defense to the tune of 495 total yards. Titan running back, Aaron Baltazar, had 227 yards both rushing and receiving and scored 2 touchdowns, while running back/kick returner, Tavarus Green had 120 all purpose yards and 2 touchdowns.

Eastlake Titans Beat El Camino 34-6

The Wildcats came into Stan Canaris Stadium with two goals in mind, stop the Titan ground game and avenge last year’s playoff loss to Eastlake.

Neither would happen last Friday night as the Titans won the game 34-6 and had twelve players combine for 418 yards rushing. Eastlake is now 3-0 on the season and face the 3-0 Cougars of Steele Canyon on 9-24-10 at home

No on Proposition H: Chula Vista Utility Users’ Tax Hike

Only a year after voters overwhelmingly defeated a sales-tax hike, Chula Vista City Hall is proposing yet another tax increase.

According to City Hall, Proposition H proposes a simple update to protect the city’s telecommunications tax revenue stream. What the measure does is expand the scope of the tax, thereby increasing revenues. Many wireless subscribers will see a zero to 5 percent increase. The ballot language fails to indicate the possible increases in taxes. It states the opposite.
