Former Padre and MVP pleads not guilty to assault
Community of Eastlake, Eastlake Sports, Police Blotter Sunday, August 1st, 2010CHULA VISTA, Calif.—Kevin Mitchell, a former Padre and the National League’s MVP in 1989, has pleaded not guilty to felony charges that he assaulted a man last week at a golf club.
Prosecutors say Mitchell was arraigned Thursday in Chula Vista Superior Court on charges of battery and assault.
The 48-year-old was arrested July 21 at the Bonita Golf Club and released on $25,000 bail the next day.
His attorney, George Siddell, said there was an exchange of words and “whether anyone was actually hit has to be sorted out.”
Prosecutors say the victim, whose name wasn’t released, suffered a concussion.
If convicted on both counts, Mitchell could spend four years in prison.
