The fun run will be held on the center’s inspirational grounds where participants have the opportunity to run along side Olympians through the exclusive Olympic Village — all to benefit a great cause! With colorful combinations of pastel chalk, Heritage Elementary students and parents presented “Chalk Walk 2010”—a collection of chalk art at the front of the school.
The art depicted a character trait from popular children’s books. For example, “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein that illustrated the theme of giving was then illustrated in the students’ chalk art.

(CHULA VISTA), Calif. – If you’re planning to hit the road for a late spring or early summer getaway, be sure that everyone in the car wears their seat belt on every trip, day and night. Law enforcement throughout the state, including the Chula Vista Police Department will be looking for unbelted drivers and passengers as part of the 2010 Click It or Ticket mobilization, May 24 through June 6. This year, fines and fees have increased from $132 to $142 for first time adult seat belt violations. For children under 16, the fine is now $445 for a first time offense.

The Chula Vista Elementary School District formally began notifying 159 teachers this week that their jobs have been eliminated.
More than 400 teachers received tentative layoff notices March 15, the annual deadline for school districts to send tentative pink slips to teachers and other school staff. On Tuesday, the school board agreed to reduce that number to 159.

A magnitude-4.0 earthquake was recorded about 8 miles east southeast of Ocotillo.
The quake struck at 10:11 p.m. Thursday, according to preliminary information from the U.S. Geological Survey.
It was centered 13 miles southwest of Seeley and 19 miles east northeast of Jacumba Hot Springs.

By taking a few simple precautions, you can dramatically reduce the risks. Of course, every home and every situation is different, and there are no guarantees.
It’s easy to get confused these days when reading the headlines about where housing prices are headed.
Zillow says home prices declined in the first quarter of 2010 by 1 percent quarter-over-quarter and fell 3.8 percent year-over-year. Integrated Asset Services (IAS) sees a rosier picture with national housing prices gaining 1.1 percent in March. The National Association of Realtors (NAR) found 91 out of 152 areas posted gains in median home prices.
CHULA VISTA — Regional water pollution regulators left the door open on Wednesday for the South Bay Power Plant to continue operating through 2011 — maybe longer.
South Bay civic leaders and conservationists have tried to force the plant’s closure for years, citing environmental problems with a facility that dates to the 1960s. Several of them asked the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board on Wednesday to terminate a permit that allows the plant to discharge cooling water into south San Diego Bay.

CHULA VISTA — An interim Chula Vista city councilman is being accused of violating state conflict-of-interest laws when he served on the planning commission.
Derrick Roach, a private investigator and 79th Assembly District candidate, says Councilman Mitch Thompson bought property in the city’s redevelopment area while he was on the Chula Vista Planning Commission last year and voted on issues that affected parcels he owns.

If anyone happened to be on the beach after 10 p.m. during the weekend, you might have noticed something unusual about the breaking waves: some of them looked neon blue.
I was near the Scripps Institution of Oceanography pier on Thursday and Saturday night and saw waves that looked like they were lit up by some kind of Pink Floyd laser light show. Every fourth or fifth wave that crashed glowed with an otherworldly blue.
