In the spirit of fostering a safe and fun Halloween evening the Chula Vista Police Department offers the following safety tips for families and residents:

When trick-or-treating, young children should always be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult. Teens should stay in a group and avoid unfamiliar neighborhoods. Remind teenagers to stay on well-lit streets, use the sidewalks, obey traffic and pedestrian regulations, and cross the street at designated crosswalks. Any groups trick-or-treating should take along a flashlight.

During the month of October, the men and women of the Chula Vista Fire Department will be raising funds and awareness for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, a foundation dedicated to breast cancer research, support, and education. Your local firefighters will show that they are “Tough Enough to Wear Pink” and will be sporting pink shirts & hats during the month of October.

Melissa Haskins has formed a team for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society San Diego Chapter’s 13th Annual Light the Night Walk and has already recruited 20 Navy colleagues.

This year, the Walk is scheduled for November 4, a day after her birthday. What’s the only present she’s asking for? To get members from her community and individuals in the Navy to join her team or donate as she celebrates her birthday and continues to fight through chemotherapy.

Pending Home Sales Decreases by 4.6%

The number of contracts to purchase previously owned U.S. homes unexpectedly fell in September as lower prices and borrowing costs failed to support demand.

The 4.6 percent decrease in the index of pending home sales, the biggest since April, followed a 1.2 percent drop the previous month, the National Association of Realtors said today in Washington. Economists forecast a 0.4 percent gain, according to the median of 38 estimates in a Bloomberg News survey.

Inaugural Chula Vista Challenge On Oct 16th, 2011

The inaugural Chula Vista Challenge Olympic Distance Triathlon presented by Pulse Endurance Sports will be held on October 16, 2011.

The race will be the most scenic and challenging Olympic distance triathlon course in San Diego County.  The race has been created by local triathletes who thought it was time to go east of the I-5 Freeway to race on the beautiful roads and trails of Chula Vista.
