American Idol runner-up and Chula Vista native Jessica Sanchez performed for her hometown last Friday as part of the 93.3 Summer Kickoff at the Sleep Train Amphitheatre.
Fox 5’s Kristy Wolski spoke with the singer after her performance.
“It’s awesome that I get so much support from my hometown,” said Sanchez. “It means a lot and it’s awesome to come back and perform for channel 93.3 Summer Kickoff. I’ve been to these things like a million times and I’ve always been like one day I’m going to be on that stage, I’m going to be performing on that stage for my hometown, so it’s amazing, like a dream come true.”
Sanchez performed two songs off her debut album “Me, You & the Music.”
“It’s more of an R&B, urban, like pop, kind of dancey feel,” said Sanchez. “There’s like two ballads on there, but more of like the youthful side of me. More of the direction I want to go into with my music career, so I’m very excited.”
The star’s San Diego fans enjoyed her show tweeting photos and support from inside the venue. Sanchez said she will never forget that hometown love.
“It means the world to me to be back home,” said Sanchez. “And no matter where I live, no matter where I move, San Diego will always be in my heart, my number 1.”
Sanchez shared the Amphitheatre stage with other stars including Ne-Yo and Demi Lovato.
