Summer Rugby Clinics Offered in Eastlake, Chula Vista
The South Bay YMCA, Serevi Rugby and the City of Chula Vista Recreation Department have joined forces to introduce rugby to local youth. Rugby has become so popular it will be a metal sport in the Summer Olympics in 2016.
Designed to develop basic physical and mental skills of rugby, the clinics include running, passing, kicking, catching, character, confidence and leadership building and safety. As part of the clinic, future rugby Olympians will coach the participants.
The week-long clinics are open to boys and girls ages 5 to 18 and the fee is $75. Two sessions are offered in Chula Vista: June 11-15 at Salt Creek Community Park, 525 Hunte Parkway, from 9 a.m. to noon and June 18-22 at Eucalyptus Park, Fourth and C Streets from 9 a.m. to noon.
Register online through the South Bay YMCA at www.southbay.ymca.org, click on youth sports and select youth rugby.
This is a huge opportunity to introduce boys and girls to a non-traditional sport most of us have never
participated in. I am grateful to the South Bay YMCA and Serevi Rugby for teaming up to give kids an
opportunity to experience something new in the world of recreation,? said Buck Martin, Chula Vista?s
Director of Recreation.
