Chula Vista Olympic Training Center Athletes to be Honored at U.S. Olympic Team Day at Petco Park on Saturday, July 7

On July 7, Olympic and Paralympic athletes from the U.S.Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista will be
recognized at Petco Park, as the San Diego Padres host U.S. Olympic Team Day.  Athletes who will be competing this summer
in London at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will take part in several interactive pre-game activities, giving Padres fans a chance to meet the athletes who have lived and trained locally.

“Our athletes have been a part of this community throughout their training and this is a great opportunity for San Diegans to meet the athletes in person, bringing the spirit of the Olympic Movement within reach,” said Tracy Lamb, director of the Chula
Vista Olympic Training Center. “We are so thankful to the Padres for having the U.S. Olympic Team day to celebrate our athletes’ accomplishments and send them off to London in style.”

An athlete meet-and-greet will be held in the Park at the Park near the wiffle ball field from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. so that attendees can get photos with the athletes and wish them well before they head off to London.  An interactive field hockey exhibition will be held on the wiffle ball field in the Park at the Park from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and kids will have the opportunity to learn about field hockey
from the women’s team that will go for gold in London.

As part of the pre-game ceremonies, the 2012 U.S. Olympic Archery Team will shoot an Olympic distance of 70 meters from home base toward centerfield.  All athletes who qualified for the London Games will receive on-field recognition immediately before
the start of the game.

Lex Gillette, two-time Paralympic silver-medalist and world record holder for visually impaired long jump will sing the national anthem and one of the CVOTC resident athletes will throw out the first pitch before joining the rest of the athletes in the stands to cheer on the home team.

The baseball game between the San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds will begin at 7:05 p.m.  Discounted tickets for the July 7 game are available at www.padres.com/promo<http://www.padres.com/promo> using the promo code: USA. For
each ticket purchased using the USA promo code, the Padres will donate a portion of your ticket price to the U.S. Olympic Committee in support of Team USA athletes.
