Series of brush fires investigated in Chula Vista

Police are investigating four brush fires believed to be arson that occurred in recent weeks in the Rancho Del Rey Parkway neighborhood in east Chula Vista, authorities said Tuesday.

No injuries or property damage have been reported, but each of the fires came close to homes, police Detective Matt Smith said.

Police have no leads on suspects. All four fires appear to have been intentionally set, but only one has been confirmed as arson, Smith said.

The fires were reported along canyons near Discovery Park, with the first on May 28 and the last on June 8. All of the fires burned less than an acre.

Smith said people of all ages travel through the canyons, near Otay Lakes Road and H Street.

Authorities are offering an award of up to $10,000 to anyone with information about the fires. Crime Stoppers can be contacted anonymously at (888) 580-8477.
