Recording of 911 hoax released

A Chula Vista Police Department Captain says it’s not uncommon to get prank 911 calls from kids. However, a recent call didn’t come from a kid and took up critical resources and shutdown a community.

Dispatcher: Christopher just stay on the phone with me.

Caller: I have to kill myself.

Dispatcher: No you don’t.

The March 17th 911 call sent Chula Vista Police into overdrive, sealing off roads in the Eastlake Trails housing area, even putting a local school on lock down.

“A dispatcher is talking to somebody that she believes just killed his wife and is threatening suicide,” recalls Captain Gary Wedge, Chula Vista Police Department spokesperson.

The 911 system pinpoints that the call came from a tri-plex off Garnet Peak and the man on the phone, who identifies himself as Christopher, can’t go on after committing murder.
