Prop H Fails at Polls, Voters Want Reform Over Revenue
Proposition H, a controversial Telecommunications Users Tax in Chula Vista was defeated on Tuesday at the election polls.
As the second largest city in the San Diego metropolitan area as well as the 7th largest city in Southern California, Chula Vista is facing a $12 million dollar budget deficit.
According to City Hall, Proposition H proposed a simple update to protect the city’s telecommunications tax revenue stream. What the measure did was expand the scope of the tax, thereby increasing revenues. Many cell phone wireless subscribers wouldve’ seen a zero to 5 percent increase.
Ed Herrera, President & CEO of the Chula Vista Civic Association said, “Now is the time to act. Chula Vistans have spoken, again. Taxes and theatrics are not the solution. We must be proactive…. This is and has always been about a regressive tax that hurts hard-working families, burdened struggling small businesses, and would have continued to place our city at a competitive disadvantage.
We wish to thank everyone from the bottom of our hearts for all the support. Everyday, in rain or shine, we fought for the city we love so much. With nothing in return, we all contributed to the cause because we believe in good government and protecting working families. They said the odds were stacked against us. They said the people would be fooled. But, they were wrong. In the end we, the people prevailed. Now the onus is on our leaders to lead and our community to come and pull together. We’ve got to come to a sense of agreement. It won’t be easy, but we know that the spirit of Chula Vista is one that cares and fills in where there are voids. So, thank you Chula Vista for taking a stand. You are the heroes. You. Never forget that.”

YES! Hopefully now the city will take us seriously. We’ve gotta vote the bums out. Maybe I should run for mayor. At least My ideas would include more than taxes.
