Friday Night Lights With Eastlake Little League

It was last year during Little League Day at Petco Park when Padres president and COO Tom Garfinkel had an epiphany of sorts as he watched player after player walk past him.  “I was on the field last year before a game on the weekday, and we had about 8,000 Little League players there on the warning track for a parade,” Garfinkel said. “As I’m watching them walk by in their uniforms, it occurred to me that none of them had Padres gear on.”

Last Friday night, Eastlake Little League  and more than 850 Little League teams — from T-ball through Minors — were wearing the Padres uniforms in 2012, with 20 different styles of Padres jerseys represented.

Nearly 50 leagues in San Diego County are now benefiting from the Padres’ Youth Baseball Initiative, which is a community partnership that will provide more than 11,600 local Little Leaguers with authentic, custom-made Majestic jerseys from throughout Padres history, as well as corresponding caps.

Eastlake Little League celebrated the 2012 season with Ceremony announcements provided by Joe Little from 10 News, Frankie J signing our national anthem, special guests from The San Diego Padres, Chula Vista Mayor Cheryl Cox.

After the ceremony kids and families enjoyed entertainment from Equinox laser tagging, Gamez on Wheelz, jumpers, carnival games, fire truck provided by Chula Vista Fire Department and great food from Chick-fil-a, Los Primos, Chili’s chips & salsa, cotton candy, popcorn, coffee by Third Alarm Coffee, and ELL’s wonderful snack bar.  Silent and live auction and lots of great raffle prizes also took place and games commenced on Saturday.

Congratulations, ELL and welcome to the 2012 season!
