Eastlake High Baseball Players Commit to College

Three seniors from the Eastlake High School baseball team have committed to playing in college.

Outfielder Andrew Calica will join UC Santa Barbara from Eastlake High in San Diego after receiving numerous awards in his junior season. Calica was a First Team All League player and a Second Team All-CIF player. He has experience in the Junior Olympics and hit .468 last year with a .585 on-base percentage and

New UCSB Head Coach Andrew Checketts said, “Andrew is a spark-plug type of player, he’s a well-rounded individual with a tremendous work ethic in the classroom and on the field,” Checketts said. “We expect Andrew to be a top of the order bat and centerfielder.  His history of success at everything he does was very appealing to our coaching staff.”

Right handed pitcher, Dylan McDonald will be playing for Tony Gwynn and the Aztecs at San Diego State University. The right handed pitcher helped the Titans of Eastlake win the 2012 Mesa League Championship and looks to improve SDSU’s struggling 26-34 overall record.

Right handed pitcher, Josh Palet will be playing for the UC Riverside Highlanders and is expected to help improve a team with a 2012 record of 22-32.
