Arrests Made in May 15 Shooting
On the morning of June 10th, the Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) detectives in conjunction with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) arrested three suspects involved in a shooting stemming from a May 15, 2011 altercation at the Denny’s Restaurant at 692 E Street in Chula Vista.
The shooting occurred at 2:40 am, between patrons visiting the Denny’s restaurant. The victim, a US Marine, was shot in the leg and sustained non-life threatening wounds. The suspects fled in a vehicle and were not apprehended. Witnesses reported they believed the suspects were likely active duty military personnel.
CVPD detectives with the assistance of NCIS began investigating the shooting incident and interviewing multiple witnesses.
Two suspects, Jarrel Daniels, aged 26, a Navy petty officer 2nd class, and DeMario Zachery, aged 27, were arrested at their residence at 5192 Sandbar Cove Way, San Diego. A high risk search warrant was served at the residence in the early morning hours by the San Diego Police SWAT team. CVPD detectives and agents from NCIS then recovered a handgun and clothing matching the description of the suspects at the time of the shooting. Two additional male and two female residents were detained during the warrant service and were later released without charges.
Simultaneously, NCIS took a third suspect, Michael T. Williams, aged 25, a Navy petty officer 3rd class, into custody from a US Naval vessel currently in port in Homer, Alaska. Williams will be extradited in the coming days to Chula Vista to face charges.
All three suspects have been arrested for conspiracy, assault with a deadly weapon and shooting from a moving vehicle.
