Two men have been arrested in connection with a pair of purse-snatch robberies at a Chula Vista store, where the women were selected, stalked, then confronted, police said Tuesday.
A 40-year-old woman who was with her 3-year-old child in Hometown IGA market on E Street was robbed of her purse by three men who surrounded her inside the store on Feb. 1, police Lt. Lon Turner said. He said one man tugged her purse off her shoulder and all three men escaped in a blue or gray sedan.
On Feb. 24, two men stole a purse in similar fashion from a 65-year-old woman in the same store, Turner said.
He said the case was featured on a local television show, San Diego’s Most Wanted, on April 25. As a result, someone called in a tip that led to the arrest of one suspect, Daniel Thomas, 21, on May 27 by the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force. Thomas is suspected in both robberies and remained in jail Tuesday with bail set at $240,000.
On Friday, the task force arrested Dorrian Cunningham, 21, on suspicion of being involved in the second robbery with Thomas. Turner said the two men involved in the first case, allegedly with Thomas, remain unidentified, and there may be other suspects who drove getaway cars.
